Today it’s my great pleasure to introduce a very special lady, Pearle Munn Bishop from Boone, North Carolina.

Fronz, an English friend, advised us on our first trip to London to do the “tourist things.” We only had two days but were determined to see all the places we had read about, the Tower of London, Westminister Abbey, the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, and Hyde Park where people were standing on boxes loudly telling us how to live. In our two day visit, we saw a lot.
The last on our list was Piccadilly Circus. After stopping at a couple of pubs for gin and tonics, we should have been smart enough to save the Circus for a later visit and gone to our hotel. But, I insisted we had to complete our list. We found Piccadilly Circus, alright. Blame it on the moon, the gin, our long separation or even the fact I was in love with the guy.
We were wrapped around each other on a public sidewalk under a street light. All seemed right with the world until I felt a strong hand on my shoulder and turned to find a very angry woman, ready to fight. The gin and my Southern blood turned me into an alley cat. When she said, “He is my man,” I went for her hair. Growing up with three brothers had taught me a few things about fighting. I’m not sure but I think I might have won that fight if someone had not convinced her the man I was with was my husband.
My friend Fronz had not told me about the “ladies of the night” and how they protect their territory.
Pearle Munn Bishop’s home has always been filled with books, stacks of them. Even when her husband’s Air Force career took the family to England, Germany, Japan as well as locations in the United States, the books travelled along with other household goods.
She joined High Country Writers in the mountain town of Boone, North Carolina, and absorbed techniques of writing. One day, the muse hit and Cleo’s Oak flowed from her pen as if channeled.
Cleo’s Oak – Cleo, a psychic midwife from the 1800s channels her life story through Willow, an egotistical, contemporary sixteen-year-old girl.
Does a mystical Celtic spirit live in Cleo’s oak?
Are there really magic circles?
Can a butterfly lead you out of deep despair?
Can the dead tell their story through channelers?
Cleo’s Oak contains answers to all of these questions plus sex, birth, death, marriage, war, religion, adultery and perhaps murder.
Everyone that ever had a grandmother should read this book. You will agree that across time, human values have not changed.
Thank you Pearle for dropping by today and being my guest! I’m a fan of your daughter, author Maggie Bishop – here’s an interview I did with Maggie earlier. Wishing you all the best with Cleo’s Oak! Two authors in one family – I think that’s wonderful.
