Guesting with Bergers Book Reviews

A very special ‘thank you’ to book reviewer Alice Berger – and here’s why…..

Touched by The Light
Touched by The Light

There will always be something very special about one’s first book review by someone who is completely unknown to you, although you have been following their review website.  Alice and Gene Berger run Bergers Book Reviews and it is a great review website.  When Alice kindly agreed to review my debut novel Touched By The Light shortly after it was released earlier this year, I was nervous.  Conscious that I’ve chosen a writing style that is frowned upon – I write in the first person through the eyes of (in this case) all five of the main characters.

Here is Alice’s review, posted on 3 May 2011:-

Mya isn’t quite sure where she is, when she suddenly realizes she’s no longer in her body. She remembers a hospital and workers scurrying around her, but then she makes her way toward the light and reaches what she thinks is the other side. But where is everyone else? Why isn’t anyone around to help her adjust?

Laurel is able to communicate with spirits, and she and Mya become friends. Drawn to Laurel’s relationship with Dan, Mya is convinced she’s in this purgatory of sorts in order to help them. But then she loses touch with Laurel and begins a new friendship with Dan – this time without the benefit of speaking.

It’s impossible for me to tell much more about this story without giving away all the intricate plot twists that make it such a fun read. Romance, good friendships, and the paranormal blend together so nicely, with a cast of believable and well-developed characters. Everyone grows as a result of their experiences, and the reader is rewarded with a happy ending.

Touched By the Light is Linn B. Halton’s first work of fiction, and it’s a dandy. I look forward to reading more from this talented new author.

Today I was invited back to be interviewed by Alice to talk about what inspired my debut novel, psychic experiences that have influenced my writing (but in a fun way) and loveahappyending.com – so click through to see how our little ‘chat’ went …..  http://t.co/jce7gxj

Nikki Bywater – a paranormal investigator/researcher & Associate Reader

I write psychic romance stories; I write about the way life complicates the path we follow in our quest to find true love.  However, there is always a happy ending– why?  Because, for the most part, I believe we have the ability to make our own happiness.  Fate lays out a path, and sometimes that path will not be easy; often there is pain and tragedy, but we have to learn to enjoy the good things that happen whenever we can – to grab at what brings a smile to our faces; to choose to be with people who are positive in their outlook on life and who inspire us.

As a featured new Author on the new innovative, interactive Reader/Author website:-

that launched on 29 June 2011, Nikki Bywater came forward as an Associate Reader and we linked up!

Nikkiwas born in Batley West Yorkshire.  She lived in the lovely West Ayton in North Yorkshire and then in Derby.  She has spent time in America (New York), but finally settled in Cheshire in 1998.  She has worked in television as a TV extra/jobbing actress, seeking out small roles to fit in with her busy family life.

Her father is the S.A.G.B medium Terry Tasker and that is where her interest in the paranormal began.  She says she doesn’t yet have the ability to become a medium, but is more of a paranormal investigator/Researcher.   She has featured on the radio with her paranormal work.   She also loves to read, not just books on the paranormal – and that’s how we met.

As my Associate Reader at loveahappyending.com, Nikki read Being A Sceptic Is Oh So Easy, something I never intended to write at all, because my genre is psychic romance and purely fiction – well, that’s almost true.  I often include psychic encounters based on things I have actually experienced myself.

I digress ….. Being A Sceptic Is Oh So Easy is a collection of psychic experiences I’ve had throughout my life (and that are ongoing).  But it also felt right to include my observations about coincidences, deja vu and many other things that contributed to turning me from a staunch sceptic, into a believer in life after death.  To read Nikki’s thoughts after she finished reading my book, please visit her website:-

Some wonderful people…….

Getting involved in loveahappyending.com has taken over my life for a short while leading up the Launch Day on 29 June 2011 (sorry about that! I have turned into this PR mad person!).  However, I do also have a ‘much-loved’ writer’s hat of my own and I will soon be back to ‘living my dream’ and writing full time.

In the meantime some wonderful people have taken their precious time to talk about ‘me’, and as a new Author that is more meaningful than the words imply.  Selling books isn’t easy; getting your name ‘out there’ isn’t easy and then there are the reviews.  You write in good faith, believing you have done the best you can and that ‘your baby’ will thrill the readers.  But it’s not as simple as that, how do you get those wonderful READERS to know your book even exists?

So a big ‘warm hug’ to the wonderful Kathryn Brown, fellow Author on loveahappyending.com and still basking in the glory of the fantastic feedback from her own novel ‘Discovery At Rosehill‘!  She took time out to write this wonderful review of my debut novel ‘Touched by The Light‘:

http://authorsonshow.com/kathryn/

A big ‘thank you’ also to the well-known and very  talented ‘sceptical medium’:

Lorraine Goodrich http://bitly5z1ezq.blogspot.com/ for her article featuring ‘Being A Sceptic Is Oh So Easy‘ today:

http://authorsonshow.com/linn/

This wasn’t a book I wrote expecting to get reviews, as it isn’t fiction, it’s simply a true story of why I believe in life after death.  So anyone who takes an interest tends to either have had similar experiences or has lost loved ones and can sympathise with the emotions expressed within this story.  So for someone like Lorraine to take an interest, I was both surprised and delighted!

The fact that both of these wonderful ladies are involved with the website ‘Authors on Show‘ is no coincidence and is a brilliant example of how authors support each other.  There are many new Authors out there who deserve to be read and I am humbled that my fellow authors take time out to read and write about my work.

And you know what the really great thing is?  I have two new authors who I intend to read …. as soon as loveahappyending.com is Launched and the excitement subsides JUST a little – however, I suspect the enthusiasm is going to be riding high for quite a while, so I will be reading in whatever spare time I get.

Who needs TV?  Not me …. I’ve got interesting authors to read and my life has never been so exciting!  So to anyone out there feeling there’s ‘something missing’ – come and join us, reading is a way of escaping – a way of becoming a part of a writer’s imagination and you just need to let them lead you along their path…….. it’s fun!

An Interactive Website … and new friends

Welcome to new friends – Shaz Goodwin, Kim Nash and Richard F Holmes, and here’s why they are special (visit their websites to see for yourself):-

http://shazjera.blogspot.com

http://kimthebookworm.blogspot.com/

http://www.richardfholmes.co.uk/

An Interactive Reader/Author Website is a great idea on paper and loveahappyending.com is the result of several months’ planning prior to the official Launch Day on 29 June 2011.  But what happens when the paper model becomes a living, breathing website, out there for the whole world to see?  It went live very quietly on 13 May 2011, when testing began as pages were loaded and invitations were extended to a group of wonderful new Authors.  They were chosen to represent not just a wide range of genres, but age groups, experience and geographical spread.  To those who accepted the invitation it was a leap of faith, what were they letting themselves in for, and what did it all mean?

Well here is my personal experience as a Featured Author on loveahappyending.com. My debut novel was published in February 2011 and it is all rather bewildering as you begin to build your author platform – setting up a personal website and using social media for the first time. So many pitfalls to avoid, so many new experiences …. times when you need a shoulder to cry on…. times when you have exciting news and want someone with whom to share it. But it has to be someone who understands the world of ‘books’.

loveahappyending.com suddenly appeared and my new Author page was there – on day one!  It began quietly, unobtrusively even and then the appeal went out for Associate Readers.  People who love books, people who may already review books on their own blogs and websites; people who wanted to support and get to know loveahappyending.com’s new Authors – people like myself!  Would they come?  Would anyone want to try this new interactive idea?  We held our breath, said a prayer and those prayers were answered!

So I would like to introduce you to my very wonderful, and special, Associate Readers – Shaz Goodwin and Kim Nash.  They came on board at the start with such positive, motivated and enthusiastic energies, that I was blown away!  In just a few short weeks my first two Associates have become firm friends.  Our shared love of books is a passion that means there is never a dull moment; I have found two new and interesting friends and at each turn am discovering new things about them.  To meet one new friend who is totally in tune with your passion is wonderful; to meet TWO people is all thanks to loveahappyending.com.

loveahappyending.com hit the ground running, interest was there from the very beginning as new Authors and Associates started linking and making friends.  Supporting each other, sharing, laughing, Tweeting …. a community has sprung up virtually overnight and Launch day is still a couple of weeks away!  It is a wonderful team of like minded people and every single person involved is there to have fun and enjoy moving this project forward, as big plans for the future unfold.  We are a part of a new experience and we have the power to make things happen!

I frequently write about psychic experiences in both my novels and the articles I post on my website.  All are based on personal experiences I have had over many years.  What has happened in the last few years has taken my life in a new direction, which allows me now to embrace my beliefs and leave my scepticism behind.  The natural progression was then meditation, something that another Featured Author (Spiritual Teacher and Medium) Richard F Holmes introduced me to quite recently.  I have since learnt that an Uncle on the ‘other side’ is helping me along this new and exciting path that I have found – sorry Uncle Bill, along which ‘you are leading me’.  Too many coincidences, too many ‘great ideas’ suddenly there in my mind in the early hours of the morning, or when I’m on the treadmill at the gym…..

So I want to say a big, heartfelt ‘thank you’ to wonderful new friends Kim, Shaz and Richard, three amazing people – our paths have crossed for a reason, so let’s have some fun and see what fate has in store for us.  I, for one, can’t wait!

Guest Post with Mike Angley

Touched by The Light cover
a psychic romance

Friday, 13 May 2011 and a big ‘thank you’ to Mike Angley for the great interview published today on his website.

We talked about Touched By The Light’, why I decided to start writing psychic novels, and future projects that I hope to publish in 2011/2012.

It was lovely meeting Mike, he is a great guy and I can thoroughly recommend his books.  He’s had an interesting life and it is reflected in his writing!

Mike Angley author of The Child Finder Trilogy

More information about Mike – he is the award-winning author of the Child Finder Trilogy.  He retired from the Air Force in 2007 following a 25-year career as a Special Agent with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI). He writes thrillers with a paranormal twist.  His protagonist is a man whose deep faith guides him through his page-turning perils.  The Child Finder Trilogy is a hot thriller series with a light, somewhat edgy spiritual theme…it is not typical Christian fiction.  But fans of that genre as well as suspense and thriller enthusiasts thoroughly enjoy it!

The Child Finder Trilogy.  The truth is not out there…it’s in here, in the final book…and it’s not what you think.  Of course, it’s just fiction.  It’s not real…or is it?

Inspired by real-life experiences…follow the paranormal adventures of an Air Force Special Agent as the government exploits his psychic abilities to find abducted children. Rescuing them is a noble pursuit, but it comes at great cost. Special Agent Patrick O’Donnell must battle dark, murderous forces within his own trusted inner circle, as well as unimaginable evil that threatens his family. Before his journey ends, Pat will learn explosive government information that will rock his understanding of life, the universe, and his own faith. Perhaps some secrets are best kept hidden…..

Reviews for ‘Touched By The Light’

Touched by The Light cover
a psychic romance novel

The cover of a book does, without a doubt, draw you to a particular title.

The blurb on the jacket may entice you, but it’s always nice to read what other people have to say about it, isn’t it?
Here is a selection of the reviews for ‘Touched By The Light’, which I hope will make this book one you will want to take home and read for yourself:-

Review posted by Alice Berger, reviewer and author  http://bergersbookreviews.com/2011/05/03/touched-by-the-light/ Mya isn’t quite sure where she is, when she suddenly realizes she’s no longer in her body.

Review Post by Kit Domino, artist and author http://wp.me/p1q0nb-2G

When I purchased my Kindle I promised myself I would not buy any more paper books but the release of  ‘Touched by The Light’ made me break that vow such was my enthusiasm to read this book. And I wasn’t disappointed. It is a brilliant read.

This Psychic Romance delivers on all counts even if you don’t believe in the supernatural and paranormal, life after death, spirits or anything remotely psychic. Touched by the Light draws you into the story immediately when Mya, knowing she has died, is thrust unwittingly and unwillingly into a quest to bring together two love-torn people, Laurel and Dan.

There are no ghosts to spook you, just one or two things that do go bump in the day; a door slamming, items being thrown across a room but these are just ways Mya makes herself known to Dan. Laurel can talk to spirits, and Mya finds herself able to communicate with her, trying to make sense of her own predicament as well as solving Laurel’s difficulties even when summoned by a Ouija board and a medium who tries to make sense of what is going on in their two worlds.

Although at times we do lose sight of Mya a little along the way, the ending is surprising, raising more questions than can possibly be answered on this journey into the spirit world, but a satisfactory conclusion nonetheless.

New writers are frequently told not to write in the first person because of how limiting this is in enabling the necessary reactions and actions between characters but Linn has achieved what many writers never do. She has created strong, believable characters in an intriguing plot that moves forward a pace. Each chapter is told from one character’s viewpoint delivered in the first person. And it works! No small feat for a new writer.

So, well done Linn on a superb read. I look forward to reading more of your books in the not too distant future.

This is a good and imaginative story about the problems a young woman faces when she unexpectedly finds herself in the afterlife. It is cleverly constructed and well written with a nice romantic interplay between the characters, who are interesting and sympathetic. Just when you start to think you understand what’s happening, a couple of well-timed plot twists keep you wanting to read on as the plot moves to a satisfying finale.
